We did not perform says Hull’s Lynch

Super league: Disgruntled Hull FC captain Andy Lynch reckons his side “self-destructed” at Salford City Reds, writes Dave Craven.

The Black and Whites lost their unbeaten record when they suffered a 24-22 defeat on Friday night.

Salford’s Daniel Holdsworth kicked a late penalty to snatch the points for the hosts but Lynch apportioned all the blame to his own team.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, the prop said: “No disrespect to Salford but those are the sort of games we should be winning.

“But we just didn’t perform right across the team – at some point we all made errors that we wouldn’t normally do and we just never got out of third gear,” he added.

Indeed, there was some uncharacteristic mistakes from Hull who know they must improve significantly ahead of Sunday’s visit from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

That fixture sees Richard Agar make his first return to the KC Stadium since being released at the end of last season to make way for Peter Gentle.

Trinity themselves are smarting from their own self-harm, a raft of penalties seeing Bradford Bulls inflict a 36-18 defeat on Saturday evening.

Hull were hammered in the penalty count at Salford with some particularly dubious decisions going against them.

But Lynch refused to use that as an excuse for their reverse.

“We’re just very disappointed and want to get back on the training field ready to get it right for Wakefield,” said the winter recruit from Bradford Bulls.

“Against Salford, we hit the self-destruct button – errors, penalties and starting to push too many passes.

“Defensively we weren’t there either; there was no line speed,” he said.

“Compare all that to the previous week where everything was great and we worked together as a team to beat London and it’s just frustrating.

“I don’t think we started playing until the last 10 minutes on Friday.

“When we do it we look good but can’t turn ball over like we did and can’t do the same against Wakefield.”
