Webster is 
remaining positive as youth gets its chance

They sit bottom of Super League seeking to avoid a sixth straight loss when Catalans Dragons arrive at Belle Vue tonight.

Hampered severely by injuries, it has been difficult to emerge from their slump.

Yet Webster remains positive saying: “All clubs have gone through this type of thing in the past and it is our turn.

“But would (youngsters) Jordan Crowther and Tom Johnstone get a crack if everyone was fit?

“Probably not and that is the good thing for our club. Results are not great, but the club will benefit – even though we are doing it hard at the moment – through players coming in and getting more experience.

“Everyone is trying hard. It is tough, but the boys are all onside and we are watching some youngsters coming through who we hope will go on to be good players.”

Webster may have captain Danny Kirmond and influential scrum-half Tim Smith fit to return against a Catalans side who have lost three successive games.

Inevitably, Trinity are being talked of as relegation material and they need wins soon to avoid being cut off in the bottom four.

That, of course, puts them at risk of the drop when the leading quartet of Championship clubs join to form the crucial ‘Middle Eight’ after 23 rounds.

But Webster maintained: “We are just looking to improve.

“We have done really well against Catalans at our place in the last two years, but we just want a better performance.

“That is what we have all spoken about. We want to take all the pressure away, of all the stuff to do with the competition.

“We are not going to get close to winning games until we can perform better and that’s the aim over the next two games.

“Sometimes if you improve, you win. We are not giving ourselves a chance of winning at the moment, but we will do if we get better.”
