Wigan Warriors v Hull Kingston Rovers: Robins are ready to step up a gear after derby lift

HULL KR coach Justin Morgan accepts his side must perform even better than during their clinical destruction of Hull FC if they are to edge nearer Old Trafford.

Having seen off the Airlie Birds, they visit minor premiers Wigan tonight, the only other side they have yet to defeat this season, in an elimination semi-final at DW Stadium.

Swelled with confidence after putting their derby rivals to the sword, Morgan said: "Last week was a big occasion for everybody. This one has been as much about refreshing the mind as the body.

"The play-offs are fantastic to be involved in and they're great games. The first weekend tossed up some excellent encounters so, hopefully, week two can do the same.

"However, we know that if we want to be involved after Friday, we have to make sure that we bring to the Wigan game what we brought last weekend and a little bit more if we're going to win."

Wigan have prospered in recent meetings, winning 38-18 at Craven Park last month.

The Robins had fought back from 14-0 down at the break to go ahead 18-14, giving the league leaders a real scare.

Michael Maguire's side will be wary of that threat and have also lost four of their last five games at home, including Sunday's shock play-off demise against Leeds.

Morgan said: "The triumph over Hull FC has certainly stoked the confidence and while Wigan have been the most consistent team all year, we're quietly confident that we can lift ourselves and get the result.

"We hadn't won a play-off game before Hull and that's a huge amount of pressure for a team to carry.

"I'm very proud of the way the players handled that during the week and, more importantly, how they handled it on the day. It gives the team a confidence boost and a chance to get one step closer to Old Trafford."
