Wildlife report under fire

A Natural England report logging the loss of 500 species of English wildlife – mainly as a result of agricultural and industrial development over 200 years – was not particularly helpful, according to country landowners president William Worsley.

He commented: "Harking back to 1810, when England was hardly industrialised, had a population of only 12 million and the greatest threat to these shores was Napoleon, is not a useful contribution to an important debate."
