York City Knights 10 Hunslet Hawks 46: March returns to take the points as Hawks storm to victory at Knights

HUNSLET HAWKS continued their push for the Championship One title as their York old boys left their old stomping ground with plenty to smile about.

The Hawks won 46-10 at Huntington Stadium, with six of their eight tries, plus all seven goals, scored by players who switched from York to the John Charles Stadium within the last 10 months.

The try-scoring was started after only six minutes by Paul March, the man who was controversially sacked as York player-coach last July.

He joined Hunslet in a similar capacity a few weeks later, soon returning to lead his new charges to victory.

Since then, 10 players have followed him from York to Hunslet, including his twin and fellow former Super League star David March, who topped his brother yesterday by notching two tries against his old club.

Lee Waterman had equalised Paul March's opening try, adding the conversion himself for a 6-4 lead. But York lost captain Richard Blakeway and Waine Pryce gave his side the lead again, ex-Knight Wayne McHugh adding the first of his six goals. Tommy Haughey turned from creator to scorer to make it 16-6 before York's Jack Stearman was sin-binned for infringing.

Paul Stamp immediately hit back but, with the hosts down to 12 men, Hunslet scored through ex-Knights Danny Grimshaw and David March either side of half-time. McHugh then crossed before York's Chris Clough was dubiously sent off on 56 minutes for alleged tripping.

David March soon got his second and Hunslet struck again in the last minute to cross again, through Dave Clayton.
