York City Knights 12 Hunslet Hawks 50: Hawks overcome an early setback to blitz Knights with nine-try onslaught

Elliott Kear grabbed two late tries to emphasise a true man of the match performance as he inspired Hunslet to a convincing nine-try victory at player-coach Paul March’s former club.

York had started the more convincing with early supremacy resulting in a fine try for Ben Hardcastle on his debut.

But Hunslet hit back with Richie Barnett reacting quickly to touch down for Kear to add the first of his seven conversions.

Tommy Haughey then went over score before Grimshaw glided swiftly through the defence to ensure a12-point lead for the Hawks at the break.

A dominant opening 20 minutes saw Hunslet run in a further three tries. Waine Price scored two, with Barnett adding the other. York did hit back with Nathan Freer’s bustling run being finished by Chris Thorman.

But three tries during the last 10 minutes – Kear with two and Andy yates the other emphasised Hawks’ dominance.
