Competition for places all over the pitch, says happy Rotherham United boss Paul Warne

The Millers’ chief has no fresh injury issues for the short trip to Iron, currently managed on a caretaker basis by his former Rotherham team-mate Nick Daws.

On whether he will be faced by some difficult selection decisions, Warne said: “A little bit, it has not been too bad. I had a team in mind when I spoke to the staff and they gave me their team individually.

“Their teams were the same as mine, so I do not think I have too many problems. I think we are looking good.

“I have waxed lyrical about Joe Mattock. I think he was one of our outstanding campaigners throughout the year. But Ben (Purrington) has come in and been brilliant. He played a part in three clean sheets in his last four games. Purrington or Mattock? (Joe) Newell or (Jon) Taylor? (Anthony) Forde or (Ryan) Williams? You could go on and on.

“There is competition for places all over the pitch. In successful teams all managers have those problems because everyone is doing well.

“Everyone is fine apart from Procs (Jamie Proctor) and (Darren) Potter. Joe Newell is fine. He has trained all week.”
