Key looks for positives at struggling Titans

With their 62-47 defeat at Cornish Pirates last weekend, inexperienced Titans squad showed further signs of a group beginning the gel.

That progress will need to continue the upward trend this weekend against a Richmond side that will be full of confidence following their opening win of the campaign last week against Jersey.

Titans coach Andy Key said: “We have to take the positives from the Pirates game, especially because of where we are right now. We’re very appreciative that you can’t go and score seven tries and then concede eight; that just doesn’t work and I’m pretty certain that we’re not going to play another game where we score 47 points and don’t come away with the win.

“We went down by 14 points inside the first six minutes, which was very disappointing and we just weren’t at the races at the start. Our ability then to put our game plan into operation and to get into the areas we wanted to attack I thought was very good.”

Yorkshire Carnegie’s Mike Myerscough is relishing the chance to reacquaint himself with Cornish Pirates at Headingley in the Championship tomorrow.

Myerscough, who hails from Bude in Cornwall, spent his formative years with tomorrow’s visitors before moving north to Leeds.

“I’m almost an adopted Yorkshireman now after six seasons here but I did have some good times down at the Pirates and it’s always good to then face your old team,” he said.

“There’s hardly anybody still there apart from Chris Morgan, the captain, and the coaches Alan Paver and Gav Cattle who were players when I was there.”
