Saxons make it memorable weekend with Churchill cup win

England Saxons claimed a fifth Churchill Cup title by beating Canada 38-18 in some style in New Jersey.

Nick Abendanon and Alex Goode scored early tries as the Saxons established an early 17-0 lead, Stephen Myler converting both to add to an early penalty.

Canada hit back as Matt Evans and Chauncey O'Toole touched down, but two more Myler penalties ensured the Saxons led 23-13 at half-time.

Further tries followed after the break from Jon Clarke and Luke Narraway.

Scotland captain Alastair Kellock hailed his side's Test series victory in Argentina as the highlight of his international career.

The Scots claimed an impressive 13-9 win in Mar del Plata, having already defeated the Pumas 24-16 in Tucuman a week ago.

"We came over here and we worked incredibly hard and the effort at the end of it was brilliant," said Kellock.

New Zealand coach Graham Henry expects Wales to be breathing fire next weekend after being humbled 42-9 by the All Blacks in Dunedin.

A Stephen Jones drop goal and a penalty either side of a Leigh Halfpenny three-pointer from halfway saw the tourists in the game at the break, trailing by just 15-9. But the home side cut loose in the second half to run out comfortable winners.

Henry, who coached Wales between 1998 and 2002, expects the visitors to hit back hard in the second and final Test in Hamilton on Saturday.

"I think they've got a lot of pride, as a rugby nation," Henry said. "They will be hurting and when the Welsh dragon is hurt it usually breathes a bit of fire."
