Scientific trio lead the way in Hampshire

EAST Yorkshire time trial ace Adam Duggleby is celebrating after he helped Science in Sport.com take victory in the National Team Time Trial Championships in Hampshire yesterday.

Duggleby, from Gilberdyke, was one third of the winning trio alongside Alex Royle and Alistair Rutherford, who clocked 1hr 15min 34sec for the 36.5-mile course near Rake.

Their time was more than two minutes faster than their nearest rivals, Cycle Premier team of Simon Wilson, Tony Gibb and Dale Appleby, while In Gear-Quickvit were third, just two seconds behind.

In North Yorkshire, Doncaster’s Kevin Dawson won the Andy Wilson Memorial 50-mile time trial staged between Boroughbridge and Dishforth, clocking 1.41.06 to win by almost a minute-and-a-half from his nearest rival, Derek Parkinson from Cleveleys RC.

There were also good rides from Morley’s Lee Tunnicliffe (Planet X), who took fourth spot, while fifth-placed went to Carl Saint, the Yorkshire RC rider from Slaithwaite.

Over shorter distances, Clifton CC staged a 13-mile event near Sheriff Hutton on Saturday, and it was Oxford visitor Tejvan Pettinger who came through to win with 29.28.

Of the Yorkshire riders, Mark Wolstenholme (Team Swift) was third with 30-23, while Andrew Askwith (Bridlington CC) was third, another 13 seconds off the pace.

In bunched racing, Pudsey’s Stephen Bottomley (Crosstrax) was victorious in the Last of the Summer Wine Road Race staged on the Hade Edge circuit near Holmfirth on Sunday.

He sprinted to victory ahead of Nottingham’s Stuart Murfin, while Sean Newbould, the Featherstone Road Club rider from Kippax was just inches behind in third.
