Scimitars continue to slide

SHEFFIELD SCIMITARS slide continued when they drew another blank in the EPL at the weekend.

Jon Rowbotham's side followed up a 5-1 defeat at former Elite League club Basingstoke Bison on Saturday by going down to a late goal in a 2-1 defeat to Slough Jets on Sunday.

It means the South Yorkshire club remain sixth in the table despite having lost 11 of their last 12 games.

Slough went ahead at 7.47 through Peter Jasik's strike but it wasn't until the third period that the home side got back on level terms, Matt Haywood burying the puck in the net at 53.21 following good build-up work from Simon Butterworth and Stuart Brittle.

But, with overtime beckoning, the Scimitars were floored when Ryan Watt pounced to slot home the game-winning goal at 58.59.

In Basingstoke, Scimitars were undone by Ondrej Lauko who scored four of Bison's five goals, the other coming from Steve Moria.

Mark Stewart scored the visitors' consolation goal at 49.42 assisted by Matt Haywood and Peter Slamiar.
