Sheffield Wednesday v Exeter City: Wanted man Mellor aiming to stay at Owls

SHEFFIELD Wednesday manager Gary Megson wants striker Neil Mellor to stay at Hillsborough.

The former Liverpool forward plays his final game on loan from Preston North End today as the curtain comes down on the season at home to Exeter City.

Although he still has 12 months remaining on his contract at Deepdale, Mellor – who has bagged 20 goals in 31 starts – has confirmed that the Owls are chasing his signature.

Sheffield Wednesday say they want to keep me next season but, at the moment, nothing has been discussed or what sort of terms they want to keep me here for,” he said.

“It’s with Preston. They hold my registration so they could, potentially, cause a few problems. But it’s between the two clubs to sort out. I wouldn’t have thought it would be too hard to convince me to sign.”

Mellor, whose father Ian also played for Wednesday, was initially dropped by new manager Megson but has been impressive since returning to the side last month.
