Shoot-out success boosts Stingrays

HULL STINGRAYS closed the gap to four points on sixth-placed Braehead Clan, but needed to beat Dundee Stars on a shoot-out to clinch both points.

John Dolan put the second-bottom club ahead at 12.15 before Stingrays' top scorer Jereme Tendler levelled at 22.56 on the powerplay.

With no further goals, Tendler and Andrew Coburn's shoot-out strikes sealed the extra point for the home side.

Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier was quick to appreciate how significant the two points may prove to be for his team's top six ambitions, particularly when, he admitted, it came courtesy of an unimpressive performance.

"A win is a win and we'll take the two points," said Cloutier.

"It moves us four points behind Braehead and with four games in hand so it was important to win and for us to keep closing that gap.

"It was not our best display. We looked tired in the first period but we finally got going. We found a way to win and it was a big two points for us."
