Stingrays slip to overtime defeat

ice hockey: Hull Stingrays' away woes continued when they slipped to a sixth straight loss on the road, going down 5-4 in overtime to Edinburgh Capitals.

Lee Esders gave Hull a second-minute lead before Owen Fussey levelled 19 seconds into the second period.

Three goals in as many minutes just after the halfway mark then gave the home side control before Konstantin Kalmikov gave Stingrays hope with a 37th-minute strike.

James Hutchinson’s first goal of the season made it 4-3 at 43.42 before Esders grabbed his second of the night to level. But just 42 seconds into overtime Mark Smith struck to earn the extra point for Edinburgh.
