Stockport County v Huddersfield Town: Clark expects rivals to push Town all the way

League one: LEE CLARK believes the battle to reach the play-offs will go beyond today – even if Huddersfield Town win.

The Terriers are in an excellent position, six points clear of nearest challengers Colchester United with three games to play. Southampton are a point further behind in eighth.

It means a win over already relegated Stockport together with results elsewhere going their way could see Town's place in the top six assured by 5pm.

It is not, however, a theory subscribed to by manager Clark.

He said: "Hand on heart, I don't think a win will be enough. It is not a certainty mathematically anyway, so we are just taking it one game at a time.

"I am not looking at how high we can finish, just for the three points. Then we look to Colchester (a week today) and getting the three points from that. We all have run-ins with games against the top teams and teams fighting relegation so there are still twists and turns to come."

Around 3,500 Town fans are expected to travel to Edgeley Park and Clark is determined to send them all home happy.

He said: "Stockport is a big game for us because we will have so many fans over and I want to give them a positive result.

"We will totally respect Stockport. We will also have to adapt to the conditions because the pitch is not the greatest."
