Super League: Huddersfield shutout Rovers, Hull shocked in Wales

HULL KR head coach Justin Morgan said his side had produced a "poor display all round" after his side's 30-0 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Giants.

A hat-trick of tries from wing David Hodgson, plus further scores from Shaun Lunt, Larne Patrick and Leroy Cudjoe, saw the visitors simply demolish their hosts at Craven Park.

Morgan said: "I think that was a disappointing display all round. We did not start well and did not get any better. In fact we got progressively worse as the game went on.

"We did not show any patience with the amount of possession we had at times and we pushed the pass and that cost us.

"We could not defend our areas at times either."

Morgan refused to blame the heavy conditions and said the Giants had just played better than his side.

"I will have to delve very deeply to find any positives to take from today. We were way off with our attack and our defence was very scratchy."

Nathan Brown did not seem too happy despite not allowing the Rovers a single point.

"It was obviously good to nil them but I did not think it was an outstanding performance," said the Huddersfield coach.

"In particular in the second half I thought our defence was pretty reasonable but we sort of faffed about in attack.

"To keep them to nil was very pleasing but I just think in attack our determination to come up with the right play was a little half-hearted. Or maybe the desire was not quite right."

Crusaders coach Brian Noble said he would keep his players' feet on the ground after they recorded a first Super League victory at their new Wrexham base.

The 18-16 win over Hull put the Welsh outfit, who finished bottom of the table in their inaugural year at rugby league's elite level, into the top eight.

And it was a first defeat of the new season for the Humberside outfit who were 12-6 and 16-12 ahead at stages during the match.

Two tries from wing Nick Youngquest and one from Michael Witt for the Crusaders against tries from Lee Radford, Tom Briscoe and Kirk Yeaman for Hull levelled out matters in that score.

But a missed conversion by Craig Fitzgibbon against three out of three for Witt was the difference, as was some great fighting spirit by the Welshmen.

Noble said: "Our goalline defence was terrific but we could have made the game a whole lot easier.

"We have worked extremely hard since we got together in January and they got their just rewards today but we will keep a lid firmly on it.

"We are delighted that we beat a top team and delighted how we came through the last 10 minutes."

And while Hull head coach Richard Agar was thoroughly fed up by the loss, he believes the Crusaders have turned the corner from their troubled Super League past of last year.

Agar said: "I think they will continue to progress and develop. They are a completely different entity from last year.

"They already seem to have built up a lot of local base and they are very excited about it. They could turn into a team that is very hard to beat."
