Tapestry is late addition for Arc as jockey Moore handed ride among Europe’s elite

Even though Aidan O’Brien’s filly was a disappointing ninth in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last month, owners Coolmore will not have stumped up the supplementary fee of 120,000 euros to make up the numbers.

The horse will be ridden by the in-form Ryan Moore who said: “It was a lot of money to supplement Tapestry, but I think she would have to go and have a run there – she’s a very good filly.”

The ante-post favourite remains Epsom Oaks and King George heroine Taghrooda – the horse that Tapestry surprisingly beat in the Yorkshire Oaks.

She will be a first ride in the race for former champion jockey Paul Hanagan.

Meanwhile, David Pipe’s Gevrey Chambertin returned to winning ways at Bangor yesterday under Tom Scudamore. It was the top class hurdler’s first win over fences – the grey was pulled up in the Reynoldstown Chase at Ascot before finishing a distant ninth in the RSA Chase at Cheltenham.

Though it was only a three-runner race, Pipe was happy.

“We were trying for a confidence-booster with him and we will probably look for another little race for him next,” he said.
