Tennis: Revenge not an issue for Clijsters after setting up date with Petrova

The Russian handed Clijsters her heaviest defeat at a grand slam event at the same stage last year, thrashing the US Open champion 6-0 6-1, and the pair will meet again at the weekend after both recorded impressive wins yesterday.

The third-seeded Belgian was in cruise control as she eased past Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1 6-3 while Petrova, seeded 13, lost just five games against home hope Alicia Molik.

Asked if she still reflected on that humbling by Petrova, Clijsters insisted: "Actually, no, I don't.

"I don't think I've ever played a match like that. So it was very easy in a way to also forget about it.

"If that would be something that would occur more often, it would be in my mind.

"I would feel like I had to do something about it. But, no, I don't."

Second seed Vera Zvonareva survived a major scare to squeeze past talented teenager Bojana Jovanovski.

Zvonareva looked in real danger when the 19-year-old Serb, the youngest player in the top 100, cruised through the first set but she hit back impressively to win 2-6 6-3 6-1.

"She's a very good player," said Zvonareva, who meets Lucie Safarova next.

"It took me some time to understand her game and I was a little bit slow in the beginning with my decisions.

"But I was able to pick it up and really turn it around in the second set. Then it was a bit easier for me."

Fifth seed Sam Stosur had few problems against Vera Dushevina, winning 6-3 6-2 in what she described as her best performance for some time.

"Everything seemed to be coming out of the centre (of the racket) and I felt like I moved well, made some good decisions" she said.

Seventh seed Jelena Jankovic crashed out 7-6 (7/3) 6-3 to China's Shuai Peng, who matched a career-best by reaching the third round at a grand slam.

Tenth seed Shahar Peer cruised past Sorana Cirstea 6-3 6-2,

No 12 Agnieszka Radwanska beat Petra Martic 6-3 6-4, 16th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova saw off Kristina Barrios 6-2 6-2 and

No 22 Flavia Pennetta cruised past Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-2 6-2.
