Tigers prospect switches to Leeds

RUGBY UNION: Leeds Carnegie have signed Leicester Tigers academy product Dan Hemingway.

The 22-year-old back-row joins the Championship club on a two-year contract.

Head coach Diccon Edwards said: “Dan has had a good education as part of the Leicester Academy and he has a great deal of potential.

“We will be doing everything we can to help him realise that potential here at Headingley Carnegie.”

Hemingway joins fellow new signings fly-half Joe Ford from Northampton and full-back Stevie McColl from Doncaster.

Sir Clive Woodward has been announced as the chef de mission for the British team at the first winter Youth Olympics in January.

The appointment is a strong indication that Woodward will not join the Rugby Football Union as performance director until next year at the earliest – and potentially not until after the London 2012 Olympics where he is due to be deputy chef de mission.

The RFU are expected to make appointing Woodward, the former Rugby World Cup-winning manager, their priority when a new chief executive is appointed to succeed John Steele.

Judge Jeff Blackett has confirmed he will chair a five-strong panel to review the hiring and firing of Steele.

The RFU’s management board ousted Steele at an emergency meeting after deciding his position had become untenable.
