Time can help Clan succeed

HULL STINGRAYS owner Mike Pack believes Elite League newcomers Braehead Clan will prove to be a success – but only if they are given time to develop.

The Scottish club will take the number of teams in the UK's top flight up to nine for the 2010-11 season after a number of existing team owners – led by Nottingham Panthers' Neil Black – formed a new company to run the latest addition.

At this stage, no other clubs are expected to be in place ahead of next season although it is clear the ambition of the league is to further increase the number of teams competing.

"I think it will work. It won't be an overnight success but with time and no little patience, I think Braehead will be okay," said Pack. "It's good news for the league and the sport in general.

"There's a lot of experience behind what's happening in Braehead. It's going to take a while to build the market up there, but there is certainly potential."

The Clan will play out of the 4,000-seater Braehead Arena, near Glasgow and provide welcome local rivalry for Edinburgh Capitals.

Sheffield Steelers owner Bob Phillips also welcomed the addition of a new team to the league.

He said: "We are all excited about the prospects of a second team in Scotland.

"It will bring a great rivalry for the Edinburgh Capitals which in itself will help both them and the league as a whole."
