Titans bring in Godfrey ahead of derby trip to Knights

BYRON GODFREY makes his debut for Rotherham Titans in the South Yorkshire derby against Doncaster Knights at Castle Park today.

South African back Godfrey, 23, arrived at Clifton Lane last Monday primed for action and goes straight into the squad to face the seventh-placed Knights, who trail their county rivals only on points difference.

Godfrey said: "Andre Bester (head coach) phoned me every day to make it happen and it's a very good move for me.

"He told me about the plans he has for the club and how he wants to build a team here.

"I can play in a few positions – I try to break the line if I'm playing centre, score tries if I'm playing full-back or control things if I'm playing fly-half. I like running the ball, love taking contact and defence is one of my favourite aspects."

Another back, Simeon Jones, will be joining the Titans on Monday.

Rotherham captain Joe Bedford said of today's derby: "They're always tough games and it will be a good test of what we're putting together here."

Doncaster have won all five meetings between the two sides at Castle Park since the two rivals began life together in the second tier in the 2005-06 season.

Lynn Howells hopes to have jet-heeled winger Matt Williams back from illness as the Knights look to make it three wins in a row to continue their climb up the Championship table.

"It's a young team but I expect us to get better as the season progresses," said Howells.

Wharfedale have selected the same back division as they look to continue their try-scoring ways at luckless Coventry in National One.

Having been relegated from the Championship last season, Coventry have won only twice in eight games and find themselves flirting with a second straight relegation.

The only change made by Tommy McGee is caused by the unavailability of Oliver Renton, whose place goes to Richard Rhodes. Rob Baldwin returns to an otherwise unchanged bench.

After earning a try-scoring bonus against leaders Barking last week, Otley welcome back Jason Moss and Joe Barker to the squad for today's trip to Tynedale.
