Titans forced into afternoon start

ROTHERHAM Titans find themselves in the bizarre position of hosting a Championship game this afternoon following a complaint about their floodlights.

Fifth-placed opponents Nottingham refused to play the re-arranged fixture this evening due to concerns about the standard of lighting at Clifton Lane.

Rotherham accept their strength is not up to standard but say they have been working hard to improve the facility.

"We've just run out of time to get them sorted," said head coach Craig West last night. "We have played other games under the lights but Nottingham are within their rights to say they do not meet Championship levels; technically they aren't strong enough.

"The decision was made by an RFU Organising Committee which met over the weekend and advised the club of its decision (yesterday)."

West apologised to the club's supporters who are unlikely to be able to attend the fixture which kicks off at 3.30pm.

"It's a shame for the fans," he said. "Some of them won't be able to get to see the game and we can only apologise for that."

The club are likely to lose out financially although the game will be recorded and shown in the clubhouse this evening at 7pm.

Fears that Rotherham would struggle to raise a squad due to work commitments are unfounded and West revealed he expects to name a similar squad to the one that lost at Doncaster in their last Championship fixture 10 days ago.

"It's still a game we desperately want to win," he added, believing Titans can haul themselves out of the bottom four.

"We're not going down the path of admitting we're in the play-offs for relegation; if we win our last three games we're optimistic and we're giving ourselves the best chance we can."
