Tough weekend away for hungry Steeldogs

SHEFFIELD Steeldogs head south this weekend for their first away double-header weekend of the season.

Andre Payette’s team travel to Slough Jets on Saturday (6.30pm) before taking on Bracknell Bees on Sunday (6pm).

Steeldogs currently sit second in the English Premier League table having won four of their opening six games, but have only picked up one away win. Head-coach Payette said his team had shown already that they were up for the challenge against better-resourced teams.

“We are really looking forward to seeing how we fare against Slough and Bracknell,” he said.

“It is always tough having two road games but we have to make sure we get something out of these matches to keep our momentum going.”

The trip to take on fifth-placed Slough Jets on Saturday sees the Dogs take on the top scorers in league, while 24 hours later they will come up against a Bracknell Bees side featuring former Swindon forward Martin Masa.

Both the Jets and the Bees sit just two points behind the Steeldogs and Payette, who has scored one goal and seven assists so far, knows his team must perform well to maintain second place.

“We need to work hard for the 60 minutes each game and just focus on getting our game right each day,” he added.

Steeldogs will be looking to improve their away form following a 3-0 defeat at Guildford Flames last weekend.

The iceSheffield outfit return to home ice next Saturday (7.30pm) when they take on Telford Tigers.
