Yorkshire golf: Diane Higgins enjoys another Crow Nest Park triumph by lifting Ellisford Trophy

CROW Nest Park's immediate past captain Diane Higgins is celebrating after lifting the Ellisford Trophy.

She won the major stroke play competition by four shots with a net 75 off her 32 handicap.Second place was taken by Pam Hollingworth with a net 79 on count back from lady vice captain Jackie Turner while Carole Hampson won the ladies' best gross shield with 96.

Only two months ago, Higgins won the Jubilee Trophy, which was presented to the ladies' section by life member Stephen Cockcroft in 2002, commemorating the Queen's Golden Jubilee year.

The overnight rain had left the greens and course slow for the Ellisford Trophy and the competitors had to cope with blustery winds and rain before an expected deluge gave way to sub-tropical, cloudy conditions.

Crow Nest Park's Harry Mowl has been selected for Yorkshire Under-16s to face their Lancashire counterparts at Abbeydale on Monday, July 25.

Also in the side is Doncaster's Josh Berry, who recently placed third in the 11-year-old boys' category of the US Kids Golf Foundation's European Championship at Craigielaw, and England Under-16 international Charlie Daughtrey (Rotherham).

Hessle's club championship has been won by Alan Wright, whose 151 aggregate (78 73) gave him a three-shot win over Andrew Greetham (76 78). Third was Andrew Lockwood (82 74).

Barry Gray triumphed in the net category (75-68-143) by just a shot from Greetham (71-73-144). He took second on count back from Brian Drake (73 71).

Greetham's 71 was the best net first-round score and Barry Gray's 68 the best afternoon round.

Six-handicapper Richard Barton had his first hole in one after 35 years as a Hessle member.

It came in the afternoon round of the club championship, when - having come up short with a five-wood in the morning at the 203-yard par-3 16th, he holed his three-wood tee shot.

Luke Bell scored 21pts to win the Pro's Nine-Hole Stableford by four from Andrew Dibnah, with Darren Abbey third.

The Pro's Stableford saw Paul Redshaw accumulate 40pts to win on count back from Gavin Marshall. Gary Hughes was third on 38.
