Yorkshire golf: Tai Naylor sets new mark with ace at Waterton Park

Nine-year-old Tai Naylor had a hole in one at the seventh hole at Waterton Park.

NINE-year-old Tai Naylor has become the youngest player to hole in one at Waterton Park.

He was taking part in a four-player team event when he aced the 163-yard seventh hole using a three wood.

Among his playing partners was his cousin, Toni-Louise Naylor, multiple women's club champion at Waterton Park and this year's Yorkshire girls' Order of Merit Under-18 trophy winner.

Tai, who plays off 23, has been playing competitive golf for three years having begun taking golf lessons at the age of five.

At six he qualified regionally to go to the Wee Wonders grand final at St. Andrews.

He has also played in the US Kids World Under-Eights Championship at Gullane, finishing fourth.

His successes at club level include winning the Donna Marie O'Grady event and successive victories in the Douglas Trophy.

Anne Taylor, Woodsome Hall ladies' golfer of the year, received the Angus Duncan Trophy at the annual dinner and prize presentation evening.

The meal was served in the Dartmouth and Dining Room areas due to the popularity of the evening, with over 80 ladies attending.

Lady captain Janet Armitage handed out the prizes, which also included the bronze division award to Clare Howarth.

The winner of the Nora Sample trophy for the best net rounds on Lady Captain's Day was Joan Wood.

Armitage announced that the club's lady vice-captain for 2017 will be Val Eastwood.
