Yorkshire's Jacques Rudolph to captain Titans

JACQUES Rudolph has been named captain of the Titans in his native South Africa for the forthcoming domestic season, replacing Pierre Joubert in the hot seat.

The 29-year-old batsman, currently playing for Yorkshire, has vast experience in the game having made his debut for the same team way back in 1997.

He has since gone on to play 35 Tests and 45 one-day internationals for the Proteas, averaging in the mid-30s in both forms of the game.

Chris van Noordwyk, who was his mentor during his younger years, is now coach of the Pretoria franchise and has decided to hand the reigns to Rudolph.

"Jacques is a quality player and we believe that he will lead the team successfully in the coming years," Vincent Sinovich, chairman of the Easterns Titans franchise board, said.

"It is indeed a pleasure for me to congratulate Jacques as new captain of the Titans. He is a true product of Northerns, having represented the province from Under-13 level."

Predecessor Joubert stood down as skipper at the end of last season.

Rudolph will take charge of the team for the first time when they play the Warriors in a first-class game starting on September 30.
