Wakefield Trinity’s ‘Speed, power and flair’ impress assistant boss Andy Last

The former Hull FC coach has been working with the club for around five weeks.

He said: “You look at the potential spine of the team, there’s some real talent, creativity and experience.

“There’s Max Jowitt or Ryan Hampshire at full-back, Jacob Miller and Mason Lino – who’s just in from Newcastle Knights – Kyle Wood and Josh Wood…

“With (Bill) Tupou, Reece (Lyne), (Tom) Johnstone, Innes Senior, you’ll fail to find a better backline for speed, power and individual flair.

“So we’ve some real makings of a good side. What we just need to do is make sure that each component of the team is firing on all cylinders.”

He added: “When we’ve had successful seasons where we finished fifth, the big players were playing well every week.

“We just need to get back to that level consistently as individuals. In pre-season, I think there’s been a real shift in application from individuals.

“And collectively they’re working really, really hard.”
