Northern Items: Five sturgeon landed in Grimsby

The steam trawler Remillo, which arrived in Grimsby yesterday from fishing voyage in the Bay of Biscay, had five sturgeon in her catch, the largest which weighed about six stones.

The Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Rose Day, held on Friday and Saturday last week, realised £714 which is £55 more than last year.

The Driffield Church Schools Bazaar raised £381 14s. 2d. in aid of the alterations to the Church day school buildings.

Miss Gertrude L, Stansfield, a student at the Secondary School, Hebden Bridge, has been chosen is Rose Queen for Hebden Bridge Charity Carnival.

The Driffield Cottage Hospital has received £9O 8s. 8d. from the Driffield and District Association Football League as part of the gate money at charity matches during the past season.

A garden fete was held yesterday in the grounds of Woolley Hall (by permission of Major Guy Wentworth). The object was to raise funds for installing electric light in the Woolley Parish Church.

Mr. E. S. Atkinson, of Morley, was yesterday appointed head master of Churwell Council School, and Mr. J. G. Mason, Manchester, head master of Victoria Road Council School, Morley.

At meeting of the Middlesbrough Education Committee yesterday, Mr. J. Wesley Brown was elected vice-chairman. Mr. W. J. Williams, Director of Education, stated that the Board of Education was anxious that the building of a senior and junior school at Grove Hill should be proceeded with immediately.
