Forced to wear spectacles daily for 20 years because of failing eyesight. 49-year-old Mrs. Susan Jane Taylor, of Ella Street, Hull, claims that her sight has been completely restored after a visit to Lourdes. She no longer wears spectacles.
“I have had spectacles since I was 11. but it was not until 1932 that I was told there was an incurable astigmatism the left eye,” said Mrs. Taylor last night.

Hide Ad“Over the years my eyesight gradually worsened until I was virtually blind without spectacles. I have been unable to read or knit for any length of time.
“When I boarded the ship for Lourdes another passenger filled in my Custom’s declaration form; I could not see to it myself.
On reaching Lourdes I wheeled a sick man to the baths and stayed with him during the prayers. I had not registered myself as a sick person, but I went to the baths next day on own account.
Six hours afterwards I found I could read quite clearly without spectacles. I was overjoyed.
Miracle, says husband

Hide Ad“It was a great surprise to my family when I returned home not wearing glasses. I have not worn them since. It is not claimed as a miracle because I was not registered as a sick person when I made the pilgrimage.”
Mr. Taylor, who is not a Roman Catholic, said, “I believe it is a miracle. It has amazed me.”
Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have six children. A doctor said last night that astigmatism was a deformity of the curvature of the eye. “If Mrs. Taylor had astigmatism I do not think she was cured a visit to Lourdes,” he added.
“Such a claim may cause great disappointment to other people who seek a similar cure. Autosuggestion may have had something do with it.”
