Gig review: Hinds at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds

It’s a story Carlotta Cosials tells as she returns with her band for a show in front of a lively, full house. Clearly overcome with emotion, she’s barely able to get the words out.

Bounding onstage to Hot Chocolate’s ‘You Sexy Thing’, Hinds danced their way into their places with a giddiness that carried on to the very end.

Starting with a slow track, Hinds are a clever bunch, as they leave the crowd waiting for the party to really start. ‘Trippy Gum’, ‘Fat Calmed Kiddos’ and ‘Warts’ inject enough energy into the crowd to get them grooving along, but it all still feels a little calm for a Hinds gig.

Then when ‘Chili Town’ starts it all goes off. If this is a party though, ‘Chili Town’ is just the beginning – it’s only going to get wilder from here on in.

Leave Me Alone’s top track ‘San Diego’ sees the Brudenell crowd on a collision course with each other, as does much loved early classic ‘Castigadas en el Granero’– the standout track of the evening. Spain and partying seem to go hand in hand, and with half the crowd ending up on stage it was certainly a lively night in Leeds.

Support came from New York group, Public Access TV who are definitely ones to watch in 2016. With the swagger of The Strokes, the band treated their crowd to some new singles which included ‘On Location’.
