During the hearing of charges for child neglect at Hull yesterday, Inspector Heapy. National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, said that a mother had told him that she had given children mouse pie to cure a certain weakness.
The Stipendiary Magistrate asked “Does that mean pie made with mice?”

Hide AdInspector Heapy said it did, adding that in other cases he had heard women say they had been recommended to give mouse pie to children to cure them of certain habits.
Arrangements for Park Concert
An Interesting programme has been arranged for the massed bands concert to be given by the competing bands in the Leeds Band Festival in Roundhay Park on June 27, following the competitions.
Over a thousand instrumentalists will be playing this concert, and they will begin with a Royal Fanfare followed by the National Anthem, as at massed band performances at Crystal Palace.
“Starlit Dell,” composed by a Yorkshireman, the late Richard Smith, one of the pioneers of the brass band movement and founder of the Champion Brass Band Journal in 1867 will follow, and the chorale, “Belle Vue” composed by the adjudicator. Mr. J. Henry Iles.

Hide AdThen come “Lead Kindly Light“ and a medley march built up on several Champion Journal marches, and the concert will conclude with “Abide With Me”.
Additional car parking facilities for visitors are being prepared, and arrangements have been made for plenty of refreshment bars, solid and liquid, near the bandstand, and they will be open during the whole the competition.
Programmes will cost threepence each.
The Parks Committee, at a meeting yesterday, accepted with thanks cups given for the Festival as follows: —The Lord Mayor’s Cup, presented by Alderman P. T. Leigh, and the Montague Burton Cup, presented by Sir Montague Burton, for the first and second in the championship contest; and “The Yorkshire Evening Post” Cup and the Craven Gilpin Cup for first and second in the section contest.
