Yorkshire Children lost and then found

For nearly an hour yesterday Leeds police wireless cars searched streets in the city for a perambulator in which was sleeping two-year-old child.

The perambulator vanished from outside a shop in Meanwood Road. Leeds. The mother, Mrs. Fred Whitaker, of Buslingthorpe Lane, left her child asleep while she went Inside the shop. When she returned few minutes later the perambulator and child were missing.

Mrs. Whitaker told a “Yorkshire Post” reporter last night: “I looked along the road and then an assistant from the shop joined in a search of streets near by. Then I Informed the police.

“I toured streets in the city in the police car and after about an hour’s search the driver of the police car noticed a pram in a side street about 300 yards away from the shop in Meanwood Road.

“I was relieved to find it was mine. Baby was still fast asleep and unharmed.”

Boy travelled on barges

Missing from his home at Carleton View, Pontefract, for 11 days, Derek Wilson (11) was found by the police at Stainforth, near Doncaster, yesterday, and is now back home.

He is quite well, and it is understood that during his absence he has been travelling on barges between Doncaster and Thorne.

7-year-old boy cycled 60 miles

Seven-year-old Raymond Eastwood, of Bede Road, Barnard Castle, Co. Durham, who had been missing from his home since early yesterday, was picked up late last night by a police patrol car near Tadcaster.

He had cycled 60 miles.

He left home yesterday morning on his cycle and told his parents he was going to visit his grandmother at Kippax. but they took little heed of what said.
