This is Yorkshire Beauty festival to take place at Harvey Nichols Leeds, The Ivy York and Grantley Hall

May is the month of beauty in Yorkshire with a series of key events planned not just to introduce fresh skincare and make-up products and techniques, but also to discuss the roles that concepts of beauty play in life, covering issues including social media and diversity.

This is Yorkshire Beauty week launches on Monday, May 22, with a Sustainable Beauty event and a screening at the Everyman Cinema in Harrogate, including a panel discussion with brands including NEOM Organics.

Created by Yorkshire cosmetic surgeon Dr Lubna Khan-Salim, the festival aims to celebrate Yorkshire-based businesses and voices by putting the spotlight on key issues including representation in beauty, sustainability, and women’s health.

Dr Khan-Salim says: “We have a real mix of events and topics covered across the week - from the future of biohacking to the language of beauty and the impact of social media. Whether you want to learn more about the latest brands, trends and make-up techniques, or play your part in conversations on pivotal issues impacting the industry and society, there really is something for everyone.”

The week-long festival has garnered support from brands including Harvey Nichols, The Body Shop, John Lewis, The Ivy York, Koncept Studios, Huma Humad and Grantley Hall, which are all hosting events across the week in Harrogate, Leeds, York, and Bradford.

Dr Lubna adds: “We wanted to create something new for the region, that brought together the passion, talent and skills that we have here in Yorkshire. It’s been a real grassroots movement that has generated lots of interest and support, particularly around the representation and inclusivity of beauty and I’m really excited to see the positive impact these events have on those who attend.”

Beauty and Social Media will be the topic of a round table event at The Ivy York on Tuesday, May 23, with lunch over a discussion on the role and impact social media plays when it comes to influencing beauty standards.
