Award honours Yorkshire heritage heroes
Andrew Lloyd Webber, one of the judges, praised the “inspirational” winners at the event at the Historic England Angel Awards in London.
Among those recognised were husband and wife team Julie and Howard Duckworth from Goole, who won the Best Rescue of a Heritage Site accolade for their efforts to restore empty properties, including the Lowther Hotel.

Son Rik Duckworth said: “The voting came from Australia, Florida and California. It’s for the work my parents have done but it’s also for the massive community spirit as well.
“Ten years ago Goole wasn’t in a great place, but now it has culture and I think my parents have played a large part in it.”
Heritage minister Tracey Crouch said: ““These awards celebrate the inspirational people who have worked so hard to preserve our nation’s heritage and who encourage others to get involved.
“Heritage tells us so much about the nation’s history and the Angel Awards recognises the fantastic projects that ensure it can be seen and understood by people for many years to come.”
