Consortium awarded theatre work

A CONSORTIUM which built and remodelled Hull's secondary schools has been awarded a £16m contract to revamp one of its key cultural venues.

The Esteem group - Morgan Sindall Investments Limited, Robertson Capital Projects Limited and Hull-based Sewell Group - will carry out the full design and refurbishment of Hull New Theatre. It previously delivered the £400m Building Schools for the Future programme.

Delays have meant the theatre will not now be ready until late summer next year - three-quarters of the way through City of Culture celebrations - with the first scheduled event due to take place on September 1.

Hull Council leader Steve Brady said the investment - aided by a £5m Budget boost - was “part of our long-term plan to regenerate our economy, securing lasting benefits for the people of Hull and the region.”
