Holmfirth sculptor Jamie Frost's latest artwork Patisserie released ahead of The Great British Bake Off final

As the latest season of the Great British Bake Off nears its end, a Yorkshire sculptor has created a set of art works that are purely a “feast for the eyes”.

Finalists will go head-to-head on Tuesday to see who is crowned the series’ overall winner.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire artist Jamie Frost has released his new series of small collectable sculptures, Patisserie, inspired by just the kind of delicately-developed treats the Channel 4 programme shows to delight its viewers.

Each sculpture is around four to five inches high and incorporates the Holmfirth artist’s love and use of wood.

Black walnut, birch, elm, and fresh poplar have been hand-crafted alongside vivid plastics and cascades of foam to create the three cake-like sculptures inspired by the world of artisan bakery

Mr Frost MRSS (Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors), said: “There’s something very sculptural about this subject already, so the challenge was to make something that reminds the viewer of patisserie without trying to be a specific type of cake.

“I’ve spent a lot of time making and exhibiting figurative sculpture in the last few years. The content of these is fairly dark and emotive.”

“It has been tremendous fun to play around with shapes and colours and develop a really joyous group of sculptures, particularly at a time when we could all do with some levity.

“These sculptures are a delicious addition to any art collection and would make the perfect gift.

He added: “I think it goes without saying that I am a big fan of cake.

“I should add though, these sculptures are not to be eaten, they are a feast for the eyes only.”

He said: “We’re big fans of The Great British Bake Off in our house. I think it’s the most perfect family television.

“We enjoy watching people showing off their skills, supporting each other, commiserating and having a laugh.”

He added: “It’s fabulous seeing people enjoying themselves while embracing the challenges of making something amazing.

“Not to mention, of course, we find ourselves craving all the wonderful flavours and all manner of treats.”

Mr Frost, 43, is a figurative sculptor and draughtsman who grew up close to Wakefield and Leeds’ so-called “Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle” and his practice is strongly influenced by time spent working in Tuscany.

Noted for his portraiture and figurative drawings, he is an award-winning artist who has exhibited internationally and across the UK.

Living and working in Holmfirth, Mr Frost is based at the Sculpture Lounge Studios in Holmbridge.
