Leeds TV company's The Highland Vet spin-off of The Yorkshire Vet helps to boost visits to Scotland

The Yorkshire Vet's success has rubbed off on Leeds-based Daisybeck Studios' own Scottish project by getting visitors to the country.

The Highland Vet, which has begun its second series, is set in the Caithness area of the Scottish Highlands in Thurso and Wick.

It is based at the practice where star of The Yorkshire Vet, Julian Norton, worked before he came to Yorkshire.

And Guy Gordon, from DS McGregor & Partners, said the show has brought new people to the area.

He said: “We have seen more visitors to the area since the first series aired as people wanted to come and see the area.

“Just like Yorkshire was shown on The Yorkshire Vet our area has been portrayed so beautifully that it is bringing people here and we have had some people turn up outside the surgery.”

Thirsk saw a boost to tourism following the success of The Yorkshire Vet - which is also made by Daisybeck Studios, based on Kirkstall Road in Leeds - with people turning up from as far as America and Australia hoping to catch a glimpse of Mr Norton and co-star Peter Wright.

Downton Abbey actress Phyllis Logan, who narrates The Highland Vet, praised Daisybeck series producer Mark McMullen for his work on their lockdown voice recordings.

She said: “We recorded the narration from my home with Mark on the screen, he was so great.”

Logan, 64, who is married to Pirates of the Caribbean star Kevin McNally, said: “We had Mark on the screen and Kevin was my sound man and we really looked forward to it every week.”

She said she loved watching The Yorkshire Vet and so when asked to work on The Highland Vet, jumped at the chance.

The Highland Vet is on Mondays at 9pm on 5Select.
