Coun David Chance, Scarborough Council’s cabinet member for tourism and culture, said: “Securing Jessie J is a huge coup for Scarborough and the Open Air Theatre and I am delighted with the announcement. I know how hard the theatre team is working on securing acts specifically aimed at younger audiences and we are hoping for more announcements in the coming weeks.”

Janet Deacon, Welcome to Yorkshire area director, said: “This is fantastic news! To get yet another big act booked for this summer sends out a strong message to visitors that Scarborough is committed to providing high quality entertainment at high quality venues.”

Other acts already announced for the theatre in 2014 are Status Quo on July 12, Boyzone on July 26 and Legends of Pop on August 2 featuring Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Rick Astley, Sonia and others.

Tickets, priced at £35, will go on sale from 9am on Saturday and will be available from the Tourism Bureau by email: [email protected], by calling 01723 383636, or at tourist information centres in Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.
