Dear Stylist, I have my work Christmas party next week and have no idea what to wear! Do you have any suggestions or is it best to stick to black dress for a party?

You can play safe with a little black number, after all, it’s a classic for a reason. But if you want to mix things up and make a statement then here are a few of my favourite party pieces.

Take your styling cue from Marlene Dietrich with beautifully tailored separates, such as Lanvin’s crystal-embellished jacket. Add a flash of ruby red lipstick for plenty of party season sass.

Sticking to black doesn’t always mean it has to be a dress; every woman needs a jumpsuit in her wardrobe. One of my favourites is this tailored Roland Mouret halterneck, which would look knockout with swept-back hair and twinkling earrings.
