Aptamer partners with Pharmahungary on targeted drug delivery
A Yorkshire life sciences company has signed a deal which could help to improve the lives of people with heart conditions.
Aptamer Group develops Optimer binders, synthetic alternatives to antibodies which have been developed for a variety of uses, including drug delivery vehicles.
Wetherby-based Aptamer has joined forces with Pharmahungary Group to develop Optimer delivery vehicles targeting heart and skeletal muscle. The collaboration aims to generate data to support future pharmaceutical licensing opportunities. Pharmahungary will fund the preclinical studies while Aptamer retains full ownership of its delivery technology and a 50 per cent interest in the combined therapeutic developed.
Dr Arron Tolley, Chief Executive Officer of Aptamer Group, commented: "This collaboration represents excellent progress against our post-fundraising goals and is a capital-efficient way to generate the preclinical data packages partners need to evaluate our platform, while retaining full ownership of our Optimer delivery vehicle, and to develop licensable assets, which are core to our new strategy.”
