BARCLAYS Wealth and Investment Management is opening an office in Sheffield next week, it was revealed yesterday.

The new office – which will be based at St Paul’s Place, in Norfolk Street, Sheffield – is the sixth Wealth and Investment Management office to be opened by Barclays in the last 18 months.

A Barclays spokesman said yesterday: “The move sees the team co-locate with the Corporate Banking division of Barclays, enabling the growing team of private bankers and wealth advisers to offer the full range of banking, investment and wealth advisory solutions to new and existing clients in the South Yorkshire area.

“The decision to base a dedicated team in the city reflects Sheffield’s growing affluence and its emerging status as an economic hub for Yorkshire; there are now more than 20 members of staff working across the Yorkshire region for Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.”

Martin Cuthbert, regional director for Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in Yorkshire, said: “Sheffield is a fantastic place to do business.”

Barclays Wealth and Investment Management already has an office in Leeds.

Yesterday, 14 jobs were also created when M&S Bank opened a branch in the Marks & Spencer store in Briggate, Leeds.

The in-store bank was opened by Dave Paterson, head of network at M&S Bank, and Paula Bellamy, M&S bank manager, Leeds.
