Bettys Harlow Carr: Yorkshire cafe and tea room to close for a month ahead of its transformation

The Bettys tea room in Harlow Carr, Harrogate, will be temporarily closed during a renovation ahead of its transformation.

Bettys is a popular part of a visit to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, and the team is “sorry for any inconvenience caused if the temporary closure changes customers’ plans”.

The cafe tea rooms will temporarily close for a refresh from September 7, 2026 and will be back up and running from October 5, 2026, with a new look.

During the closure, both the cafe and shop will be shut while work takes place to refresh the destination, which sits at the heart of the beautiful gardens.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr will remain open as usual throughout the refurbishment, with a range of alternative food and drink options available for visitors.

Bettys fans can still visit nearby Bettys Harrogate or shop online for freshly baked Bettys favourites delivered to their door.

Head of site at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Liz Thwaite, said: “We’re delighted to see the refurbishment of Bettys Harlow Carr and to continue our long-standing partnership with such an iconic Yorkshire brand.

“We know Bettys is a much-loved part of a visit to the garden, and we’re excited to welcome guests back to a refreshed café this autumn.

“While the work takes place, RHS Garden Harlow Carr remains open as usual, with plenty for visitors to enjoy, including a range of additional catering and refreshment options available across the garden throughout the closure period.”

When Bettys Harlow Carr reopens on October 5, customers can look forward to a refreshed cafe experience with a relaxed atmosphere, the full freshly prepared menu, and views across the gardens.

A new Bettys To Go Window will launch at the entrance to RHS Harlow Carr, making it even easier for visitors to pick up favourite picnic essentials before heading into the gardens.

Table bookings at Bettys Harlow Carr will also be available, helping customers plan their day with ease, particularly families visiting later in the afternoon.

Branch director at Bettys, Nicky Sellers, said: “We’re excited to be investing in Bettys Harlow Carr and creating an even more welcoming experience for our customers.

“The café tea rooms are a very special part of a visit to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in early October.”
