Blacks sees profits and turnover rise

YORKSHIRE law firm Blacks has seen its full year profits and turnover rise during a period of turmoil and transformation in the legal sector.

Over the last financial year, Blacks saw its turnover increase by 21 per cent to £8.81m, while the net profit rose by seven per cent to £1.46m.

The Leeds-based firm, which is celebrating its 25th year this month, has bolstered its conveyancing team with 25 appointments.

Altogether, Blacks has hired 35 extra staff over the last year. taking the total number of people employed at its two Leeds offices to 144.

Recent appointments include senior conveyancer Aisling Owen and Helen Nicoll in the post completion department.

The wills and probate team has hired Helen Gott, and Aimee Jackson and Andrew Challener have joined the commercial property team.

Blacks is a 16-partner law firm providing a range of services to owner managed businesses.

It also has a niche specialisation in employment, sports and music law.

Blacks has former footballers Robbie Savage, who is a member of the BBC sports team covering the World Cup, and John Hendrie on its books to help guide its sports practices arm.

In recent years, it has also hired Peter Bott to beef up its music, media and entertainment law team.

Mr Bott worked in the music industry for many years as an artist, writer and producer.
