Masons suffered a devastating fire at its site in Bedale last April,

But to celebrate new beginnings it is producing 2,000 bottles of Masons Original gin - branded as Phoenix Edition - at its brand new distillery in Leeming Bar, based just a stone’s throw away from its original site.

Husband and wife co-founders Karl and Cathy Mason will donate £1 from every bottle sold to the charity supporting fire-fighters' mental health, physical health and social wellbeing.

But they are determined to rise from the ashes and launch their new distillery with the same grit, determination and ambition they started with.

Karl, a director of Masons Yorkshire Gin, said: “It goes without saying that without the incredible response from the fire department and the support we have received from our staff, community and our industry colleagues, we would not be in the fortunate position we are in today.

"When recreating our distillery, it was essential we kept everything under one roof. We built our brand by working closely with our team, so we’re looking forward to driving into the future with everyone back together.”

Although no one was injured in the fire, absolutely everything was destroyed. Within 24 hours, the team had rallied round Karl and Cathy’s dining table to pull together a contingency plan. Miraculously, and with the enormous support of the local community and industry colleagues, no production was missed and, 10 months on, the business has not only kept every member of staff, but even increased its headcount in preparation for their ambitious plans in 2020.

The new 12,368 square foot site houses Masons’ production, bottling plant and offices, all under one roof.

Masons Gin, which kick-started Yorkshire’s appetite for the spirit, currently produces over 400,000 bottles of gin per year and is distributed in Yorkshire, nationally and internationally.

The new site will allow Masons to significantly increase capacity and meet its ambitious comeback plans for 2020 and beyond, whilst maintaining the highest quality and taste standards the business was founded on.

It has been globally recognised for its products, having won multiple awards including the highly prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition Gold medal and, most recently, Gold at the World Gin Awards 2020.
