The business benefits of the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire will be on the agenda when Gary Verity, the chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, gives a guest lecture at Leeds Metropolitan University. A free seminar will offer an insight into Building Information Modelling (BIM) and reveal how the digital technology is shaping the future of the construction industry. The hour-long seminar will be hosted by Leeds College of Building and engineering consultancy Buro Happold at The Leeds Club’s Northern Room at 3 Albion Place at noon. Leeds Tweet Meet’s second event is set to explore the question of SMEs’ social reputation, as part of Leeds Business Week, at The Round Foundry Media Centre. Running between 6-8pm, experts from across the city will be put in the hot seat to answer questions from Leeds SMEs on how they can leverage social media to enhance their reputation, and what pitfalls they should look out for to help protect their company image. Those in the hot seat include social media director Michael Ham and PR director Jo Swann, from Chocolate PR, who will be joined by Stacey Stothard, corporate communications manager at Skipton Building Society, along with an online journalist. Entry is £10 per person and all proceeds go to Leeds Children’s Charity. One of the country’s leading explorers is to be the guest speaker at a dinner. Mark Wood, who has trained and led teams for polar and mountain expeditions around the world including the North and South poles and Everest, will recount his adventures with guests at the Forum for the Built Environment’s (FBE) annual dinner, which is being held at the Met Hotel in Leeds. The black-tie event, which will also raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, begins with a drinks reception at 7.15pm and is open to both members and non-members of the FBE.
