‘Innovation in the Construction Industry’ is on the agenda at Leeds Metropolitan University as Mark Bew, chairman of the Government Industry BIM (Building Information Modelling) task group, is set to give a guest lecture. The event will run from 6-7pm at the Rose Bowl, based at the university’s City Campus. Mr Bew MBE is also director of engineering construction strategies and chairman of Building Smart UK. Mr Bew’s lecture will look at the state of readiness in the construction industry as part of the need to deliver a digital Britain over the next decade, while contrasting this against what is happening elsewhere in the world. Greg Wright, deputy business editor of the Yorkshire Post, will be the guest speaker at a Yorkshire Talking Heads event at the Leeds Club from 6.30pm-9pm. Mr Wright started his journalism career in Lincolnshire, where he progressed into various roles before starting at the Yorkshire Post in 1997. He will share his experience of journalism from an early age, through to his views on the business and general news stories over the last two decades. Law firm Irwin Mitchell is to host a seminar in conjunction with insurance specialist JLT, aimed at helping to reduce employers’ liability risk claims. Held at Irwin Mitchell’s offices at 2 Wellington Place in Leeds, the free event will be aimed at HR managers, finance directors, risk managers and health & safety managers.
