Compass points ahead

THE world’s biggest catering group reported a 7 per cent jump in profits yesterday as growth in North America helped offset tough trading across the UK and eurozone.

Surrey-based Compass –which handles catering at major sporting events such as Wimbledon, the US and French Open tennis championships and the Cheltenham Gold Cup – saw annual profits rise to £1.09bn for the year to September 30.

The group said that UK sales volumes fell over the year, although the overall European and Japanese division held revenues flat at £6.2bn.
