Conflow secures Colombian contract

A YORKSHIRE firm is doing its bit to save lives in a South American mine.

Sheffield-based Conflow, a manufacturer of dust and fire suppression systems for the mining industry, has won a major new contract with CI Milpa, the Colombian producer of coking coal.

It is the first contract that Conflow has secured in Colombia, after its brokered a relationship with CI Milpa, through its sister company Bretby Gammatech.

A team from Conflow, which is part of the President Engineering Group, visited the CI Milpa mine in Bogota and fitted two dust suppression systems. They also fitted a fire suppression system on a roadway for Milpa at another site in Bogota.

Mark Henley, the managing director of Conflow, said yesterday: “This is the start of a very positive relationship with CI Milpa and we are looking forward to further developing our business in Columbia. We see it as a major growth area for our business, because of the large amount of mining in Colombia.”

CI Milpa has been a customer of Conflow’s sister company Bretby Gammatech for several years,
