Construction firm appoints new director

BAM CONSTRUCTION has appointed a new regional director for the North East. The appointment of John Phillips, as regional director for the North East, follows the promotion of James Wimpenny to the board of BAM Construct UK.

Mr Phillips, who was born in Gildersome, Leeds, started out as a civil engineer. His career has taken him through working as an engineer for Wetherby-based A Monk & Co, then as a sub-contractor’s site agent, and then onto BAM which he joined in 1989 when the company was based in Birstall.

BAM’s North East team employs over 150 people directly, and provides work for around 1,000 sub-contractors every year.

It is behind around 20 schemes currently, including ones for Leeds Beckett University and Bradford Royal Infirmary.
