It said there will be no disruption to service as the current branch on the corner of Albion Street and The Headrow will remain open until the new premises are ready.

Richard Fearon, chief executive of Leeds Building Society, said: “This news reflects our commitment to Leeds and I’m pleased our business, which has served the local community for over 140 years, has been able to secure this prominent and prestigious site.

“We’ve been based in the heart of the city since 1886 and on our current site since the 1930s, so have invested a great deal of time and effort to identify a prime location for what is our biggest branch.

“The building we’ve chosen is in a great, central location, easily accessible and amongst many other national high street brands in one of the busiest parts of the city.”

Work continues on Leeds Building Society’s new riverside head office in Sovereign Street in readiness for the big move in spring 2021.
